Welding Technician

Responsibilities:

  1. Welding Operations:
  • Perform welding tasks using various techniques such as MIG, TIG, and stick welding.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and welding specifications to determine the appropriate welding methods and parameters.
  • Prepare metal surfaces by cleaning, grinding, and degreasing to ensure proper weld penetration and adhesion.
  • Weld components according to prescribed specifications, ensuring accuracy and quality.
  1. Quality Control:
  • Conduct visual inspections of welded joints to detect defects such as cracks, porosity, and incomplete fusion.
  • Use non-destructive testing methods, such as ultrasonic testing or dye penetrant inspection, to identify hidden defects in welds.
  • Make necessary adjustments to welding processes to address quality issues and ensure compliance with standards.
  1. Welding Equipment Maintenance:
  • Perform regular maintenance and calibration of welding equipment to ensure proper functionality.
  • Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and perform repairs as needed to minimize downtime.
  • Keep welding workstations clean and organized, adhering to safety standards and regulations.
  1. Material Handling and Preparation:
  • Select appropriate welding materials, such as filler metals and shielding gases, based on the requirements of the job.
  • Cut, shape, and fit metal components using tools such as saws, grinders, and cutting torches.
  • Handle and store welding materials safely to prevent contamination and ensure quality welds.
  1. Documentation and Reporting:
  • Maintain accurate records of welding activities, including weld procedures, inspection results, and material certifications.
  • Generate reports detailing welding performance, productivity, and any issues encountered during the process.


Skills

Qualifications:

  1. Proven experience as a Welding Technician or in a similar role.
  2. Proficient in MIG, TIG, and stick welding processes, with the ability to produce high-quality welds on various metal alloys.
  3. Strong understanding of welding techniques, metallurgy, and heat treatment processes.
  4. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and welding symbols.
  5. Knowledge of welding equipment operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  6. Attention to detail and a commitment to producing quality workmanship.
  7. Excellent hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
  8. Physical fitness and the ability to work in demanding environments, including confined spaces and at heights.
  9. Welding certifications (e.g., AWS, ASME) are preferred but not required.
